ILTI's First Week is Complete

ILTI's First Friday

Michelle, from Virginia, lead our Philippians inductive Bible study early Friday morning.  She encouraged us to be Christ's example, to look for ways to "hold forth and hold fast the Word of Life" as we "shine like stars" reaching out with Jesus's love to others.  Michelle drew a word picture of how eagerly Tedd's (our ILTI leader's) one-year-old son wants to do what his father is doing.  This was evident as the young child tried to play his father's guitar.  He wanted to be like his father.  Michelle encouraged us to be as eagerly transformed into our heavenly Father's image as this little child has so aptly demonstrated.

ILTI students (Helena, Ghana; Dr. Funlola, South Africa; David, Togo; and Erin, USA) are working very hard to learn how to apply the English Language training they are receiving for Using Everyday English.  Kenyon Gerbrandt, (LEI's Media Director) is taping each session preparing to place the ESL training sessions on the LEI website making this training available worldwide.  Training materials which are already available can be accessed through <https://www.literacyevangelism.org/resources> .

ILTI students and staff prayed for Pastor Emmanuel, from Ghana.  Pastor Emmanuel spoke in chapel on Friday telling of how the Lord had led him from being a "wayward guy" to being a man of God and a pastor in his church.  He shared how, as a young man, he was awakened three times one night by a voice he could not recognize.  The voice told him, "I am going to use you."  This was the beginning of many significant events in his spiritual development.  Pastor Awidi also told of the trials he encountered in getting to the International Literacy Training Institute.  His journey took him more than twice the time it should have due to a confusion in his airplane ticket.  We are grateful that Pastor Awidi arrived safely.

Friday was a day of celebrations as we celebrated Faith's (from Tulsa and Kenya) birthday and Georg and Martha Ort's wedding anniversary.  Martha and Georg also blessed the group by preparing an Asian meal complete with plenty of curry and rice.

Saturday Celebration

ILTI students spent Saturday evening out and enjoyed dinner and meeting Mrs. Alice Rice, wife of Dr. Bob Rice, founder of Literacy & Evangelism International.

Trying something new, David demonstrated how to serve whipped cream from a can, teaching Pastor Emmanuel the skill.  "Each one teach one" - the tutor training motto took a new and hilarious twist.
